Authorities in Chico have identified the two individuals who lost their lives in the tragic shooting that occurred near a local library, an incident that has left the community shaken and searching for answers. Police confirmed that the victims were 74-year-old Robert Johnson and 46-year-old Jacob Hull.
According to investigators, a female juvenile was also injured during the attack. Fortunately, officials reported that her injuries were non-life-threatening. She received medical treatment at Enloe Hospital and was later reunited with her family. The young victim’s recovery has provided a measure of relief amid an otherwise devastating event.
Police say the suspect, identified as Sayer, had no known connection to either of the victims or to the library itself. Preliminary findings indicate that approximately eight rounds were fired from a shotgun during the incident. One victim was struck outside the library entrance, while the other victims were located outside the building as the violence unfolded.
The randomness of the attack has heightened concern among residents, many of whom viewed the library as a safe and welcoming community space. The fact that authorities have found no apparent relationship between the suspect and the victims has left many struggling to understand the motive behind the tragedy.
As part of the ongoing investigation, law enforcement officers conducted a search of the suspect’s vehicle and discovered two additional firearms. Authorities are continuing to examine the evidence and are working to determine how the suspect obtained the weapons. Investigators have not yet released further details regarding a possible motive or other circumstances that may have led to the shooting.
The deaths of Robert Johnson and Jacob Hull have prompted an outpouring of condolences from community members, local leaders, and residents. Many have expressed sympathy for the victims’ families while also offering support to the injured juvenile and others affected by the traumatic event.
