A 24-year-old Anderson man was killed late Monday night after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to repair a disabled car on Pearman Dairy Road, according to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office.
Coroner Greg Shore said Anderson County 911 received a call shortly before 11 p.m. reporting a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash in the area. Emergency responders arrived and discovered two individuals who had been struck by a passing vehicle.
One male victim was transported to AnMed Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The second victim, identified as Tyheim D. Pickens, 24, of Anderson, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate that Pickens had been involved in an earlier collision that left the vehicle he was traveling in disabled along Pearman Dairy Road. Authorities say he was outside the vehicle attempting to repair a flat tire when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
The Anderson County Coroner’s Office reported that Pickens died from multiple traumatic injuries. His death has been ruled accidental.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Anderson County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional details have been released at this time.
Authorities have not said whether any charges are expected as the investigation remains ongoing.
