Family members, friends, and members of the Papillion community are mourning a devastating loss following a tragic shooting that unfolded inside a home on Richland Drive and Grissom Street on Monday.
Authorities say the incident began after a 911 call was placed from inside the residence, where 34-year-old Coral Eaton reported that her husband, 35-year-old Camron Skayman, was discharging a firearm inside the home. Dispatchers remained on the line as emergency crews rushed to the scene, but contact with the caller was eventually lost.
When deputies with the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office and Papillion Police Department arrived in the area, they reported hearing a gunshot from inside the residence. Officers moved quickly to secure the scene and take control of the situation.
Officials stated that Camron Skayman exited the home shortly after and was taken into custody without further incident. He sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen during the sequence of events and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition.
After the scene was secured, law enforcement entered the home and discovered Coral Eaton deceased inside. Authorities confirmed that she had suffered fatal injuries during the incident and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A child who was also inside the residence at the time was found unharmed. The juvenile was immediately removed from the home and placed into the care of Project Harmony, where support services are being provided.
The loss of Coral Eaton has left loved ones in shock as they struggle to come to terms with the sudden and violent nature of the incident. Those who knew her describe the situation as heartbreaking and difficult to comprehend, as family and friends begin the painful process of grieving.
Community members have also expressed sorrow over the tragedy, noting the emotional impact such events have on families and neighborhoods alike.
