Family members, friends, and members of the Ririe community are mourning with deep love and sorrow the tragic loss of 59-year-old Simone Stoumbaugh, who died following a four-vehicle crash on Monday afternoon near the intersection of East 49th North and U.S. Highway 26 in Idaho Falls.
Authorities with Idaho State Police said the crash occurred at approximately 4:50 p.m. when a 2019 Nissan NV200 van failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of E 49th N and US26. The van collided with a 2017 Dodge Challenger driven by Stoumbaugh, causing a chain reaction that involved two additional westbound vehicles.
Following the initial impact, the Dodge Challenger was pushed into oncoming traffic, where it struck a 2008 Ford Focus and a 2017 Ford F250, which contained two juvenile passengers. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and worked urgently to assist those involved.
Stoumbaugh was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, but despite all efforts, she later succumbed to her injuries.
Bonneville County Coroner Shante Sanchez confirmed her identity and noted that the coroner’s office is continuing to work alongside Idaho State Police to support the ongoing investigation. Officials also extended heartfelt condolences to her family, acknowledging the painful and sudden nature of the loss.
Loved ones are now remembering Simone Stoumbaugh with deep affection, describing her as a caring, warm, and cherished presence in their lives. Her passing has left a profound emptiness in the hearts of those who knew her best, as family and friends reflect on treasured memories, shared moments, and the love she brought into their lives.
Those closest to her say she will be remembered not only for her life, but for the kindness and light she shared with others. Her absence is deeply felt, and the grief surrounding her passing is being met with support, prayer, and togetherness from those who loved her.
